Director’s Notes

Legally Blonde is a show about Love. It’s about letting our hearts guide us through difficult situations with integrity, all while embracing and celebrating our passions. Throughout the story, Elle discovers that hard work is most satisfying when she is able to use her talents to help those around her. Over these past four months, this cast and crew have worked together learning lines and mastering quick changes. Many of our fondest memories of the show come from connecting with each other–all of the many ways we help and are helped.

In “What You Want,” Elle tells us, “Love never accepts a defeat / No challenge it can’t meet / No place it cannot go.” Legally Blonde is a joyful, challenging show. Yet those endeavors are part of the joy. Whether it’s designing a functional dog puppet (or two!), building three-part harmonies, changing costumes while singing in character, or making the songs feel real and alive even after dozens of rehearsals–our cast and crew have grown stronger through effort and teamwork. Our community has been strengthened through shared dedication, challenges, and, undeniably, shared joy. The support we’ve received from our families, our school, and our wider community has allowed that magical bubble of creative collaboration to carry us to this moment.

Even when the show is behind us, we will go forward with a better understanding of what we are capable of–which may be much more than they thought at first. They also leave with new and unexpected friendships that will last far beyond our final performance.

Every cast and crew member you see around you has made the choice, like Elle, to follow their hearts here. This production is its culmination; the past four months of hard work and dedication have brought us to this moment.

Thank you for being here with us today. We hope you feel the joy that has gone into this production and that you walk out singing and feeling, not only "whipped into shape," but also, "so much better than before!"
