UPDATE FROM THE BOARD
As we move through the 2025 Season at May River Theatre many exciting things are happening. Our opening main season show, The Full Monty, had record attendance and welcomed some very special new-to-MRT cast members. Another milestone for us included producing the U.S. Premiere of Tim Firth's Sheila's Island. As we began the process for Spring Awakening we were blessed to have composer Duncan Sheik meet with our cast and directors to discuss the vission behind the show's development and the lasting impacts of it. It was exciting to be part of an open discussion between an established Tony Award winner and young performers that are just beginning their own theatrical journeys.
As you sit here tonight we are in the process of finalizing the details for our 10-Minute Play event happening this August. Local playwrites, including two students, will be represented as stories of the lowcountry are told. Also in August will be our final auditions for the 2025 Season for the fall musical, Reefer Madness and begin our rehearsals for the fall play, Ken Ludwig's Baskerville, a Sherlock Holmes Mystery.
In April we were sad to see long-term board member Jeff Corry leave us for Florida, but we are excited to welcome Michael Disser to the MRT team! If you are looking to become more involved at MRT we encourage you to head over to our website and see what opportunities best fit you! Also, make sure you follow us on social media and check the website frequently for updates on new opportunities!
And finally, as is the live theatre process, we have begun our 2026 planning what is sure to be another exciting season for May River Theatre. Season will be announced this fall!
Thank you for your continued support - Elizabeth
