Directors Note
The Hunchback of Notre Dame has been a challenging but rewarding piece to put together. This script—darker than the Disney film and more in line with the Victor Hugo novel—invites the audience to answer difficult moral questions for themselves. This isn’t a typical “good vs. evil” story; it is deeply layered. Our heroes don’t always make the best decisions, and at times, it is hard not to feel compassion for our villains. This story shows a slice of humanity through the "eyes" of a cathedral that has witnessed history and its people since 1482. Much like the parables of old, there are lessons to be learned here. Life is messy and choices are rarely simple, but perhaps Someday, if we keep taking care of one another, we can make things better... together... for everyone.
