In 1967, after working as a producer on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood in Pittsburgh, PA, George A Romero decided to cash in on the popularity of the horror film genre by writing and directing a low budget film, "Night of the Living Dead". The film centered on a small group of survivors who take refuge in an abandoned farmhouse to avoid an unexplained horde of flesh-eating ghouls. Little did Romero know, his film which cost around $100 thousand to make would go on to make over $30 million. And in the process, would create its own sub-genre of horror, Zombies.
We present for you a screen-to-stage adaptation of Romero's movie classic, including staging the show in "black and white", just like the film. And while this production is very faithful to the film it is based on, there are a few surprises that you don't get from the movie.
We are also extremely excited that we have guest alumni making cameos in the show representing generations of MHS Theatre students going back to 2009. This has created opportunities for members of our high school cast to share the stage with siblings who graduated years ago.
We hope you enjoy the show as much as we have enjoyed putting it together.
