Welcome, and thank you for joining us for The Little Mermaid!
This production has truly been Beyond My Wildest Dreams. Getting to spend the last few months Under the Sea with this cast and crew has been a gift. If Only we had time for one more show, all together.
This group has brought heart and humor to every rehearsal. They dived right in from the start, embraced challenges, and brought this story to life with joy and excellence. For this being TCS's first full length musical since 2019, I could not be more impressed by their dedication.
Beneath the surface of this familiar tale is something much deeper. Ariel’s journey begins with disobedience to her father, King Triton, setting her on a dangerous path. In her desire for something more, she makes a choice that leads to consequences she cannot fix on her own. If I'm honest, I see us in that story. We, too, have turned from our Father, choosing our own way, only to find that we cannot repair the cost of our sin.
But this is where the story points us to something greater.
What Ariel cannot redeem, another steps in to restore. Through sacrifice, love, and grace, what was broken is made whole. In Ephesians 2:4-5, we are reminded that “But God, is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, made us alive in Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!” Because of Him, there is no contest; grace wins. What was lost can be found, what was broken can be restored, and what was wandering can be brought home.
We invite you to experience this story through the lense of scripture and celebrate the gift of salvation we have through Christ Jesus.
Throughout our rehearsal process, we have discovered that these themes go far beyond what I've shared here. There are so many moments woven beneath the surface of this story that reflect biblical truth. We invite you to enjoy every moment of the performance, and encourage you to remain open to what the Holy Spirit may reveal to you personally along the way.
With gratitude,
Jordan Thomas
